I usually write about music in my monthly newsletter, but life has been really hectic, the newsletter is overdue, and well, music is just too much fun right now to wait. I always love this time of year for new music – the weather is warming, people are getting into the mindset of outdoor concerts and music festivals, toes are tapping for tunes other than Christmas carols and all sorts of albums are released.
I saw Santigold once at Virgin Mobile FreeFest and knew if she came back to town I'd have to catch her show. I have loved Santigold's two previous albums and her latest, 99ยข is just as unique, catchy, and fun. Her interactive video for the single, “Can't Get Enough of Myself” is awesome, as is her performance this week on Jimmy Fallon. I can't wait to see her at the Fillmore Silver Spring this May!
Speaking of upcoming shows, come May I will also be going to see The Kills when they come to the 9:30 Club. Can't deny I have a major girlcrush on Alison Mosshart (you may recognize her voice as she's also in The Dead Weather with Jack White) and if you want to see a band with badass style, Jamie and Alison are it. I saw them at the 9:30 a couple years ago and after that swore if they were ever in town I wouldn't miss it.
If you're like me, you've got quite a mix of music interests. I believe one can like many, even all music genres but sometimes it's tough to prove your love of a rock band when you're also a fan of Top 40 pop. How can one justify their love of both Nick Lachey and The Foo Fighters? Now you don't have to!
Any music that you're into right now? I'd love to know what you've been listening to!

Thereโs a lot of great trends this fall, but one of my favorites is the embroidered or brocade ankle boot. The bootie has been a trend for several years now, and this update is a fun and surprisingly versatile one. Available in a variety of silhouettes and heel heights, thereโs an embroidered bootie that likely… Continue Reading How To Style Embroidered Ankle Boots for Fall
Weekend Reads This was by far the hardest thing I read all week, but necessary. It’s so easy to turn gun violence into infographics, focus on statistics. But gun violence is human violence, and with violence, there is trauma. (Washington Post) A Florida appellate court on Monday blocked a 16-year-old teenager from getting an abortion, saying that… Continue Reading Weekend Reads #210
I’ve been invited to a 5pm beach wedding- in Florida. In August. The attire requested is “Beach Formal”. I have no idea what this means and no idea what to wear. Late August in Florida is extremely hot and humid. At 5pm the sun is still high in sky, and hours away from setting. All… Continue Reading Ask Allie: Beach Formal Wedding Attire
Many fear adding prints to their wardrobe, finding them to not be as versatile as a solid-colored garment. However, the best wardrobe is one that you enjoy wearing and properly represents your personality. Printed clothing doesn’t have to be hard to wear, it can become part of your signature and add style to a simpler… Continue Reading 7 Simple Tips for Wearing and Buying Prints Like a Pro
In the 2000’s it was all about the bootcut jean. The 2010’s was all about skinny jeans and jeggings. Now in the 2020’s it seems most every style of denim is acceptable but there is a real resurgence of the 1990’s style of jean. A little loose, a little borrowed from the boys, sort of… Continue Reading Is the Gap ’90s Loose Jean The Perfect 2020’s Jean for Grown-ass Women?
Previously, I shared a work-friendly capsule wardrobe for the creative minimalist. It is a collection of three bottoms, two jackets, four tops, two pairs of shoes, two bags, a belt, and glasses that can make a month’s worth of looks not just for the office but everyday. green blazer | green trousers | ivory jacket… Continue Reading Work-friendly Creative Minimalism Capsule Wardrobe: How I Made It and How to Expand It

My husband and I like both death metal and Taylor Swift. Try justifying that ๐
We saw Ginger Baker about a year ago in Yoshi’s (SF Bay Area club). Sorry to hear he is not well. He was amazing back in the day, and remarkably, he’s still got it!
I should have really taken advantage of the music scene more when I lived in the DC area. Now that I’m in Cumberland I sometimes have to drive 2.5 hours to see anyone. We do have a major bluegrass/newgrass/jamband festival here every year but I wish I could pick and choose the bands I want to see over the three/four days without paying an arm and a leg.
I seem to have gone to a lot of concerts in the 80s and 90s and was glad I got to see a lot of those bands, parking and stadium venues keep me from wanting to go to a lot of concerts and shows. Getting old, I guess!
It’s so true, I am more picky with what venues I’ll go to, hardly ever go to a weeknight show or a show in a big stadium because I just don’t want to deal with all the issues and drama. Could be getting old, or learning from experience and choosing only quality! ๐
Do you use Spotify? You should totally create a playlist of favorites. I’m always looking for new stuff and we seem to have similiar tastes. Enjoy the weekend!

Galactic! Love them. My husband went to high school with their drummer, so we’ve been to a number of their shows when they come to town.
I love Santigold! She’s coming here very soon but the show is on a Monday. I HATE that!
