Hello heavyweight tights, I thought we had taken a break. While I love you, I tire of you quickly and look forward to bare legs and strappy shoes. DC Spring messes with one's mind; one day, it's 65 and sunny, and the next, it's a blustery wind and below freezing.

Karl built three gardens in our backyard and is babying his baby plants, letting them have some sunshine during the day and bringing them in at night to protect them from below-freezing temps. With this weather, that baby spinach, lettuce, and other greens will reside in our bay window 24/7 for quite a while.

As for the outfit, though I have been digging shades of gray, black, and navy for my wardrobe, I feel gloomy without a pop of something. We made a carrot blend juice for breakfast, and it inspired me to make my pop today the same shade. Bright lip colors make me feel a bit more springy, though I still need to don the heavy tights and wool coat.

I can't get enough of this leather skirt; it is by far one of my best buys in a long time. The “Lillith” necklace from Stella & Dot continues the rocker/tough vibe.

  2. I really like the skirt, it’s darling. I can relate, the Boston weather is the same. I’m rebelling against the cold, I haven’t worn a coat in 2 days.

  3. Love this look, rock star!

Also, I am so over this not-letting-go winter. I do not approve of having to wear heavy sweaters and boots in April! I have a friend visiting from out of town next weekend and I hope it’s warm enough to be touristy and see the cherry blossoms.

  4. Oooh, that top is so fun! I love the way it looks with the leather skirt. I wear tons of neutral outfits, too, and like to have some kind of pop of color (usually with a belt, scarf, necklace, or nail polish), but it never occurred to me to use make up as the color in the outfit! You look sassy in these pictures, and I love it.

  5. Wow, that lip color is really fantastic on you! Honestly, I think the very idea of lipstick serving as your pop of color is brilliant in and of itself. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I can relate! I’m all in black, white and gray today, and I almost reached for the wine-colored lipstick. But then I thought, “Eh, it’s April, let’s go with the fuschia.” Orange is a color I can’t do, but it works for you.

  7. dc is looking at temps in the 70s next week — 79 on wednesday! i cant wait!
meanwhile, srubborn ol’ me decided to wear a skirt + flats today — no tights, no commuting boots. i was freezing, but it was my way of shaking my fist at mother nature! i want SPRING!

    1. I did the same thing. Bare legs, floaty skirt and sparkly flats…but with a merino wool sweater on the top. At least I can be half way there….
